Dr. Green believes his patients deserve his undivided attention and spends as much time as needed to work toward a positive outcome. One of the tests he may use for diagnosis is a Pulmonary Function Test. Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT’s) are designed to measure your overall lung function,including the amount of air in your lungs, and how well you move air in and out of your lungs. They require some effort to perform well and accurately, but are not painful in any way. Common reasons for doing pulmonary function tests include but are not limited to:

• evaluation of a complaint of shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• evaluating the severity of a known lung problem (e.g. COPD)
• diagnosing COPD or asthma
• evaluating the effect of various exposures on the lungs (smoking, asbestos, silica, etc.)
• determining whether a specific treatment for a lung problem has been effective
• assessing the risk for surgery in a patient with lung problems
• evaluation of disability
